STEM: "Steps to Environmental Management" scheme
This is an Environmental Management programme designed specifically for small and medium-sized businesses in South East England. Created by Business Support Kent with the backing of Kent County Council, SEEDA and the EU's ERDF Competitiveness Programme, it is a simple and painless way to enhance your environmental credentials, save money, stay legal, and prepare your business for a sustainable future.
To join STEM, businesses must become members of the South East Business Carbon Hub.
STEM has three phases which mirror the first phases of National Standard BS8555 and correspond to relevant clauses in International Standard ISO14001. As such it is an excellent start on the path towards a formal and accredited Environmental Management System, and cutting your Carbon Footprint.
STEM was launched in January 2011. The first companies, including Charnock Environmental, have completed the first "Blue" phase and appear in the STEM Registry. Our badge is on the left, and we hope to complete the "Silver" and Gold phases in the coming months.
STEM is recognised by the Carbon Trust and by IEMA - and best of all, it's free!
Charnock Environmental guides businesses through STEM, and can advise you on this and other environmental management systems.
